It is with honour and humility that I step into the role of President of our society. I am truly grateful for the trust you have placed in me and excited about the opportunity to serve our community of dedicated Clinicians, Scientists, Specialist Nurses and Allied Health professionals. Together, we represent a dynamic and passionate network committed to improving practice, advancing knowledge and ultimately enhancing lives through our shared work in Scotland.

Our society has a rich history of fostering collaboration, innovation and service improvement . As we look to the future, my focus will be on building upon this foundation by promoting meaningful connections among our members, supporting Resident Doctors in Rheumatology and driving new clinical and scientific initiatives.

I firmly believe that the strength of our society lies in its members. I encourage each of you to engage actively — whether through SSR educational events, local or national mentorship programs or sharing insights from your own work, service redesign and research contributions. Your voices will guide our progress and shape the impact we make in the field of Rheumatology in Scotland and beyond.

It is truly encouraging that Rheumatology is continuing to advance and while we all faced significant challenges in recent years, we are still able to provide care of the highest quality to our patients. I hope we can work together to overcome the challenges ahead.

I look forward to working closely with all of you to achieve our shared goals. Please feel free to reach out with your ideas, feedback and aspirations.

I would like to thank my predecessor, Professor Robin Munro, for the huge contributions to the SSR during his presidency, and wish to thank Dr John Harvie, SSR Secretary and Dr David Crosbie, SSR Treasurer for their ongoing and tireless efforts to support the SSR.

Thank you again for this opportunity to serve. With gratitude and excitement for what lies ahead,

Dr Hazem Youssef

President, Scottish Society for Rheumatology
